Focus on Cambridgeshire busway ~ Routes, Timetables & Fares

Over two years after the Cambridgeshire Busway was due to open Cambridgeshire County Council have finally announced that after all of the defects, disputes and missed deadlines the busway is finally going to open on Sunday 7th August 2011!

Here we try and stay positive and look past the delays, increased costs & concerns about the busway's future and look at the busway services that will start on 07/08/11...

The busway will have two operators, Stagecoach who will operate the lions share of services and Go Whippet who will operate a much smaller number of services

Stagecoach

Stagecoach are the main busway operator and will run two frequent services along the busway;

*Stops in bold font are stops on the northern busway track, the southern busway track between Rail Station & Addenbrookes and Addenbrookes & Foster Road is non stop.*

Route A : St Ives Park & Ride - Swavesey - Longstanton Park & Ride - Oakington - Histon & Impington - Science Park - Central Cambridge - Rail Station - Addenbrookes - Foster Road - Trumpington Park & Ride

Route A will operate every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday daytimes with peak time extensions beyond St Ives to/from Somersham, the service will be operated using the Volvo B7RLE/Wright Eclipse Urban 2 single deckers like the example pictured below...

Route B : Huntingdon Rail & Bus Stations - Oxmoor - Hartford - St Ives Hill Rise - St Ives Bus Station - St Ives Park & Ride - Swavesey - Longstanton Park & Ride - Oakington - Histon & Impington - Orchard Park East - Central Cambridge

Route B will operate every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday daytimes and hourly evenings and Sunday, the service will be operated using the Scania N230UD/ADL Enviro 400 double deckers like the example pictured below...

Standard Stagecoach fares apply on services A & B...

Dayrider and Megarider tickets allow travel along the route up to and including Oakington - prices are £3.50 for one day and £12 for one week, they also allow travel on all Stagecoach buses in the Cambridge dayrider zone.

Dayrider+ and Megarider+ tickets allow travel on the whole busway route and all other Stagecoach buses in Cambridgeshire - prices are £5.40 for one day and £21.50 for one week. A family dayrider+ ticket for one adult and two children is available for £6.

One way/return tickets and discounts for children are also available. Concessionary passes are also valid.

Please note - at stops on the busway track tickets must be purchased from the ticket machines before boarding the bus.

The vehicles on Stagecoach busway services are powered by biofuel and are also equipped with leather coach seats and free wifi.

Go Whippet

Go Whippet will also operate two services along the busway although these are less frequent than those operated by Stagecoach;

*Stops in bold font are stops on the northern busway track*

Route C : St Ives Hill Rise - St Ives Bus Station - St Ives Park & Ride - Swavesey - Longstanton Park & Ride - Oakington - Histon & Impington - Science Park - Milton Road - Central Cambridge - Rail Station

Route C will operate hourly Monday to Saturday daytimes with peak time and shoppers bus extensions beyond St Ives to/from Somersham, the service will operate four trips in each direction on Sunday daytimes.

Route D : St Ives Hill Rise - St Ives Bus Station - St Ives Park & Ride - Swavesey - Longstanton Park & Ride - Oakington - Histon & Impington - Orchard Park East - Histon Road - Central Cambridge

Route D is a peak time service only with two trips each way.

Routes C & D will be operated using Go Whippets three Volvo B7RLE/Plaxton Centro single deckers like the example pictured below...

JustGo Zone 1 tickets allow travel from Cambridge up to and including the Longstanton Park & Ride stop for £3 day and £12.50 week.

JustGo Zone 2 tickets allow travel from Cambridge to all stops in St Ives for £4 day and £17.50 week.

JustGo Zone 3 tickets allow travel from Cambridge up to and including Somersham for £5 day and £20.00 week, a family version for 2 adults and two children is available for £10.

One way/return tickets and discounts for children are also available. Concessionary passes are also valid.
