Extra services on The Busway confirmed... and possibly more to come!

Stagecoach Cambridgeshire have officially announced that from Sunday 4th September 2011 extra services will be added to The Busway timetable as a result of higher than expected demand for the services.

The main improvement is to the Sunday timetable where the frequency of the service will be trebled to every 20 minutes, the extra buses are expected to run over the core section of the route between St Ives and Central Cambridge, the hourly service to Huntingdon will remain at its current frequency.

Go Whippet have also increased their Sunday service from 4 buses a day to an hourly timetable.

Stagecoach will also be running extra peak time buses along the route from Monday 5th September to help deal with the extra passengers expected when the schools and collages return.

Both Stagecoach and Go Whippet have said they will be monitering services over the coming weeks to see how things go and if demand continues they are both considering increasing services further - according to Hunts Post Stagecoach East MD Andy Campbell is in discussions with Stagecoach CE Brian Souter about purchasing six extra high spec vehicles to increase the busway services further, Go Whippet are also said to be considering adding extra buses to its fleet to enable them to enhance their services further.
