Showbus 2011

Last Sunday (18th September) saw over 400 buses and coaches gather at Duxford Imperial War Museum for the annual Showbus event.

I once again travelled to Duxford in the company of Norfolk Green with their entry Optare Spectra 9 YG02FWD, this year event was highly enjoyable although numbers did seem down on last year - most probably due to the awful weather last year and the fact the weather forecast for this years event looked bleak (although it stayed nice in the end!)

Below are a selection of photographs from the day.

Norfolk Green's Optare Spectra YG02FWD which was entry no 113 in the Optare display, the area we were in seemed to be one of the worst for no - shows with both allocated spaces either side of us empty.

My award for the best pose has to go to Brighton and Hove's Mercedes Benz Citaro G 103 BX02YZP which was parked in the excellent position seen above.

One of the most interesting "modern" buses in attendance was from the Isle Of Wight based Go Ahead Southern Vectis company - part convertable open top Northern Counties bodied Volvo B10B 625 K125BUD operates on and is branded for The Shanklin Steamer tourist service.

Looking much smarter than it did when it left King's Lynn depot back in June is First Essex freshly repainted Alexander ALX400 bodied Volvo B7TL W757DWX - First's attendance at Showbus has decreased considerably in the last few year with only a handful of vehicles noted this year.

One of the main attractions at this years Showbus was the special Maidstone & District 100th aniversery display which amongst others included Invictaway branded Leyland Olympian coach GKE442Y which back in the day operated express coach services from the Maidstone & District area into London.

One of the highlights of my day was Stagecoach Bluebird's Plaxton Elite bodied Volvo B9R SV11FSD which operates the newly relaunched CoastRider X7 service between Dundee and Aberdeen - the coaches are fitted to a luxury standard including leather seats, air con, power sockets and free wi-fi.

A new model in the bus market this year is Cambridgeshire based MCV's London spec Volvo B9TL - the first example BJ11XGZ operates with Go Ahead London's Docklands Buses company.

One of the newest buses on display was Arriva Midlands Optare Versa YJ61CFM - it includes the new front light arrangement introduced earlier this year.

More photos from Showbus 2011 will be uploaded to our Flickr website soon.
