TfL launch official real time bus info website

Transport For London have today (Monday 17th October 2011) officially launched to the public their full real time information service for bus users.

The service has been under test for several weeks and the test site address has already spread, however from Monday it will work from www.tfl.gov.uk/buses.

Smartphone users (or indeed any other mobile phone users with an internet enabled device) will be taken directly to the new mobile site which is configured for easy reading on such devices.

The new service provides real time information for all 19,000 bus stops on the London bus network and it works in a countdown format which tells you minute by minute the expected arrival time of your bus.

You can access the service online on your PC, laptop or tablet computer, on your phone, and by text by sending the bus stop code to 87287*

The information provided by TfL is also available to mobile app developers and indeed apps which provide the information coupled with added GPS and bus tracking features have already started to appear, one of them is already in the top ten paid for applications on the Apple iPhone and featured on the BBC's Click programme this weekend.

To try the service for yourself simply visit tfl.gov.uk/buses and follow the instructions.

*The SMS text service costs 12p per text.
