The Busway could be extended to Peterborough

Despite the opening being delayed for near on two years and the impending legal battle over delays and costs between Cambridgeshire County Council and the main contractor BAM Nuttall it seems that The Busway, open since August this year is now flourishing with better than expected passenger numbers and several service enhancements having taken place already.

The Busway carried 430,000 passengers in the first two months of operation - 130,000 more than the projected 150,000 passengers per month in the first year of operation.

The latest round of enhancements which were intoduced on Monday 31st October saw new peak time express journeys introduced on the non-guided section of the route between Huntingdon & St Ives then continuing down the busway to Central Cambridge.

Further to this Stagecoach East MD Andy Campbell, in an interview with BBC's Look East programme has said that the company are considering more express journeys to/from Huntingdon and are even now looking into extending the service north beyond Huntingdon to the city of Peterborough!

Whatever happens to the service it certainly one to watch - lets hope the service continues to thrive, who knows, we could end up with a whole network of busway services in the years to come!!??
