Improvements to trains between Cambridge & London from this Sunday...

Passengers using trains from Cambridge to London will see an improved service with more seats when the new timetables are introduced this Sunday.

First Capital Connect to King's Cross

- 503 extra seats during peak-times Monday-Friday; 1663 extra seats off peak Monday-Friday; 542 extra seats on Saturday and 1316 extra seats on Sunday

Improvements for commuters into the capital will be seen on the 6.45am service from Cambridge to the London Kings Cross, the building of a new island platform at Cambridge station means a 12 coach train can now operate from there.

Another big change will be the retiming of the 0718 King’s Lynn to King’s Cross service, it will now set off at 0725 from King’s Lynn, and not call at Waterbeach. The portion of the train which previously started from Cambridge will start from Ely, departing at 0747, and this will call at Waterbeach allowing the service to be maintained there whilst giving extra capacity for commuters between Ely and Cambridge.

Some services from the capital in the evening will have additional stops. The 2045 train from King’s Cross to King’s Lynn will stop at Royston, and the 2153 King’s Cross to Cambridge train will call at Meldreth, Shepreth and Foxton.

National Express East Anglia to Liverpool Street

- 5500 extra seats, an increase of 20% across the West Anglia network.

- Three ‘peak’ services between Cambridge and Liverpool Street operated by new Class 379 trains and formed of 12 carriages

- Faster journey times from Cambridge, Hertford East and Edmonton Green to London

The timetable is designed to deliver the maximum customer benefits of NXEA’s £155m investment in a fleet of 30 brand new Class 379 trains introduced this summer, many of the new trains will be used on Stansted Express services from Liverpool Street to Stansted Airport which will also see an improved timetable - for full details see NXEA website.
