Royal Mail celebrates 150 years of the tube with special postage stamps

Royal Mail are to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the tube with a special selection of London Underground stamps.

There will be a total of ten postage stamps released in January 2013, the first six (one of which is pictured above) feature the system from 1863 to 1999 and the remaining four (pictured below) cover a selection of London Underground posters through the years.

The six historical stamps, designed by Hat-Trick Design, show the development of the London Underground from the early Metropolitan Line service with its steam driven trains through to the modern Jubilee Line station at Canary Wharf.

The four poster stamps each show three posters including work from Tom Eckersley, Edward McKnight-Kauffer and Abram Games.

Other items in production to celebrate the 150th anniversary of London Underground include a special Oyster card (available from mid December 2012) and also a special £2 coin (available from mid January 2013)
