This summer between 20th July and 25th August a massive railway replacement operation is taking place in the East Midlands area whilst Nottingham station is closed / part closed for up to 5 weeks to allow a major resignalling project to take place.

Our regular correspondant David Bell has visited Nottingham on several occasions already to observe the special workings and has kindly supplied the photographs that make up this two part special.

David reports the following regarding operators of the rail replacement services: "Stagecoach have hired in vehicles from Manchester, Sheffield and Hull etc plus they are also using some of their vehicles painted in the dedicated East Midlands trains rail replacement livery whilst Nottingham City Transport are using some Park & Ride vehicles plus the occasional route-branded double decker and they also have a fleet of recently acquired ex- London Tridents painted in a slate Grey livery. Coaches are from far and wide but Brian Garrett/Abbey Travel of Leicester and Johnsons of Mansfield are providing a lot of coaches and these two operators are also using the occasional double decker too."
