Major changes to the X1 from 27th July 2014

Gerard over on The X1 Blog has today published details of forthcoming major changes from 27th July 2014 to First's long haul X1 route which runs between Peterborough and Lowestoft.

He reports that the route is to be split into two sections, initially due to the major 'Postwick Hub' roadworks taking place to the east of Norwich, the routes will be - Peterborough to Norwich via Wisbech, King's Lynn, Swaffham & Dereham and Norwich to Lowestoft via Acle, Great Yarmouth & Gorleston.

The eastern section between Norwich and Lowestoft will operate at a 20 minute frequency, whilst on the western section between Peterborough and Norwich the half hourly frequency will be maintained, however the route will be changed in the Dereham area with the X1 no longer serving Toftwood, buses will instead operate via Scarning as was formerly the case in years gone by.

His report states that logistics-wise Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth drivers will share the eastern section and the western section will be operated entirely by King's Lynn based drivers. Seven Enviro 400s will be transferred to Great Yarmouth for maintenance purposes.

It remains to be seen whether these changes will be temporary covering the period of the Postwick Hub roadworks, or whether this will end up being a permanent situation.

Many thanks to Gerard for the information included in this post, check out the X1 Blog or the First website for further details and new timetables for the services when they are available.
