This week sees the bi-annual Euro Bus Expo taking place at the NEC in Birmingham, two of our regular correspondents David Bell and Gregg Collins both went along to the first day of the event on Tuesday and have kindly provided an excellent selection of photographs featuring some of the new models present at the event.
Featuring in this part are vehicles from Wrightbus including the brand new Streetdeck, Optare, Irizar and VDL plus something for the vintage bus fans too!
Our first vehicle in this part is one of two brand new Wrightbus Streetdecks present at the event, the new type is available as an integral with Daimler engine or as a Volvo B5TL, this integral example is destined for Arriva, as you can see it carries a glazed stair case inspired by the Wrightbus built New Routemaster. Another operator expected to recieve an early batch of Streetdecks are Brighton and Hove whom have 25 of the type on order (c) David Bell.
The other Streetdeck present was this bright pink Volvo B5TL example destined for Translink Metro in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The new design is certainly very striking! (c) David Bell.
Another vehicle present for Wrightbus was the now familier Streetlite, this door forward example is destined for First's operation in the Potteries, twelve of this type are due to hit the roads of Norfolk soon with six each destined for First depots in Norwich and Great Yarmouth (c) David Bell.
Moving on to Optare now, their most notable vehicles at the event were two of the previously revealed Optare MetroDeckers, seen on the stand was this demonstrator alongside a Metrocity single decker and a Solo SR (c) David Bell.
The second of the Optare MetroDeckers present was TfL specification OP14 ARE which was parked outside next to another very interesting new model - the Irizar i3 single decker, this is the first Irizar citybus for the UK market and features Scania’s KUB4x2 chassis, the first six exmaples of this type have been ordered by Menzies Aviation for use at Heathrow Airport. Irizar are also expected to make available their midibus 'i2' soon (c) David Bell.
The only coach to feature in this part is this very smart new VDL Futura destined for the long established, Guildford-based Safeguard Coaches (c) David Bell.
We finish this part with a old classic, at the event to commemorate 100 years since the start of First World War and to raise money for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal is this marvelous replica of London General Omnibus Company B Type. During the war over a 1000 B-Types along with their drivers were requisitioned by the war department in 1914 for use on the Western Front - many did not return (c) David Bell.
Look out for the second part of this feature including vehicles from Alexander Dennis, Mercedes Benz and more - coming soon!
