Southend in the 1990's - part 2

Today our regular guest blogger Philip Slynn continues his three part feature Looking back... at buses in the Essex seaside town of Southend in the 1990's, this part is similar to the first in that it focuses on the main operator at the time Southend Transport with their interestingly varied fleet. The third part due to be uploaded later this week will cover other bits and pieces that were around in Southend at the time...

Southend 1990's (c) Philip Slynn
This Northern Counties bodied Daimler Fleetline was new to Southend in 1976 as fleet no 396, but renumbered later in life to 216 (c) Philip Slynn.

Our next picture takes us to 1998 where we find a Dennis Dart in the revised livery. This standard Dart/Plaxton was fairly new when photographed as it was new to Southend in 1997. Fleet numbering had changed and this one is DSL57 (c) Philip Slynn.

This Leyland National came from Blackpool, but was new to Strathclyde as GGE 170T in 1979. It was Given a DAF engine and reregistered as seen here (c) Philip Slynn.

Southend 250 is a 1972 Daimler Fleetline, that was rebodied in 1984 with another Northern Counties body, and also re-registered with a ‘Q’ plate (c) Philip Slynn.

Finally, Southend also operated coaches on the X1 service, and this Leyland Tiger was new to London Country in 1984. This was acquired by Southend in 1998, the year I photographed it (c) Philip Slynn.

Once again our thanks go to Philip for the photos and captions in this post, look out for the concluding part, coming soon.
