Looking back... Ipswich vintage variety - part 2

For his latest guest feature, Philip Slynn is heading to the Suffolk county town of Ipswich to share a selection of photographs taken on his various visits to the area over the years, the first part included vehicles operated by the long established municipal Ipswich Buses whilst this part focuses on some of the independents of the time.

NPT 992M - Our first picture taken in 1983 is a 1973 AEC Reliance with Plaxton Derwent body. This was new to Gillet Bros of Quarrington Hill in County Durham. It is seen here when in the ownership of Bickers of Coddenham. Bickers sold its bus operations in 1988 to Eastern Counties and Ipswich (c) Philip Slynn.

JJV 332N - This is a Bedford YRT with Plaxton body new to Squirrels in 1975, pictured here in 1978. This is listed as preserved, condition unknown (c) Philip Slynn.

LVV 124P - This Bedford is another Bickers vehicle this time pictured in 1983. It is a Bedford YMT with Willowbrook bodywork, new in 1976 as United Counties 124. It was last seen with new age travellers and may still be out there somewhere (c) Philip Slynn.

LRT 72P - Beeston of Hadleigh purchased this Duple Dominant bodied Bedford YRQ in 1975. This photograph dates from 1983 (c) Philip Slynn.

GRT 34J - This is a Ford R192 with a Strachan body, seen in the ownership of Partridge Coaches. It was new to East Suffolk CC in 1971. Another 1983 picture (c) Philip Slynn.

YHA 332J - Another Ford R192 is this 1970 example in service with Sayers of Ipswich. This one has a Plaxton Derwent body. It started life with Midland Red with fleet no 6332. After withdrawal in 1980 it went to Beeston of Hadleigh and passed to Sayers in 1982 (c) Philip Slynn.
